What would you do if you were a single mom, raising two daughters, and found yourself having to relocate from the blistering heat of the Southwest to the more chilling climate of Minnesota? What would you do if this was during the month of November AFTER snow flakes had begun to fall, and the cold winds had started to blow?…Well, thanks to gifts from members of our community, one family has at least a few less things to worry about when going through such a transaction.
Early this year, the Osseo Lions Club generously donated $1000 dollars to be used to support needs of the Osseo area schools. When we were contacted by an Osseo area school in the beginning of November informing us of a family in need, we knew this was the perfect situation to put some of those Lion’s funds to work. A single mom, with two daughters, has just located to Osseo. Coming from the Southwest, they were not prepared for the experience of a late Minnesota fall, when the temperatures can drop below freezing. Being without any winter clothing, they were in immediate need of some of the basic warm weather gear that most Minnesotans take for granted. One of our board members had the honor to take this family on a shopping spree, courtesy of the Lions, with stops at Cross (food, 5 lbs of clothes, coat, couch pillows, coffee maker, and girls signed up receiving Christmas presents), Just Between Friends pop-up garage sale at Northtown (clothes, coat), Walmart (underwear, socks, boots, shoes) and Unique thrift store (coat). After a final order for some boots from Amazon, this new Minnesota family now has a few less things to worry about.
The response from the mom the next day was: “Thanks so much! My kids and I keep talking about it and we appreciate everything! God is Good!”. And we give thanks to the Osseo Lions Club, and thanks to the kindness of our community for giving our fellow humans a warm welcome to the Neighborhood!
